Part of a Detroit Historical Museum Film Series;
Saturday-Sunday, January 9 & 10 · 1 p.m.
This documentary by filmmaker Richard Noiret was released in October 2008. The film chronicles the club's golden years, the history of cycling in Detroit and Walden's legacy. The Wolverine Sports Club started as the Wolverine Wheelman in 1888 and was based in Detroit before becoming a casualty of the Great Depression. In 1937, the club's headquarters became Mike Walden's Continental Bike Shop in Detroit. The shop was eventually relocated to Hazel Park. Walden, one of America's most successful cycling coaches, guided many of the club's members to world-level competition with only a few resources at his disposal. Run time: 98 min.
